The castle of Amboise, set at the borders of the Loire, dominates the Loire Valley. The castle was built between the 15th and 16th centuries, by 3 successive kings (Charles VIII, Louis XII and François I) on the ruins of a feudal fortress.
The castle of Amboise was the first castle of the Loire introducing Italian influences, mainly thanks to Charles VIII who brought furniture, paintings etc. from Italy by the end of the 15th century. He also had Italian gardens built. The entire castle can be admired from the bank on the other side of the Loire. From the castle’s terrace, you have a splendid view on the Loire and the roofs of the city, dominated by the Tour de l'Horloge from the 15th century.
