Chenonceau

Chenonceau

The castle of Chenonceau, gem of the Val de Loire, is an elegant masterpiece from the Renaissance, also called the ‘Château des Dames’.

The castle crosses the river Cher and is made of a square building with towers on the corners, and the gallery Catherine de Médicis built on two levels on the brigde on the Cher.

This beautiful castle, built under the reign of François I, is one of the symbols of the court fights. King Henri II offered the castle to his mistress Diane de Poitiers in 1547. As a revenge, when he died, his widow Catherine de Médicis took the castle back from her. For these love battles, the castle was nicknamed the "Château des Dames". In addition to the very elegant interior, the castle offers beautiful gardens set at the banks of the Cher.
