Rigny-Ussé

Rigny-Ussé

The castle of Rigny-Ussé dominates the valley of the Indre. Welcome to the castle of Sleeping Beauty.

The current construction started during the 15th century, on the ruins of the former fortress Jean V de Bueil, which used to be a knight’s castle.

The castle of Ussé exactly suits what is often said about the historical places of the Val de Loire: dreams and reality, history and legends… The geographic location of Ussé is extraordinary, like an eagle’s nest against the hill and the vast forest of Chinon, with the romantic and calm Indre river, and the big, dominating, sometimes frightening but always fascinating and royal Loire river, in harmony with the castles of the Loire that edge it.
